SunPowers Signature all black solar panels were used on this custom built home in the city of Rolling Hills. The all black panels flush mounted and framed with roof tiles are incorporated into the roof to form a seamless unbroken surface. The solar panel system consists of 48 SunPower 225 watt panels and 2   5000 watt inverters. The panels combined with SCE time of use rate (TOU), electric vehicle rate (TOU-D-TEV) and net metering (NEM) which credits customers for excess energy generated lowers this homes annual electric cost from $7,200.00 to $979.00. The customer received $32,800 in state and federal rebates and system will be paid off in 3.7 years. Savings will grow as electric utility rate continue to rise, the cash gained over the expected lifetime of 25 years will be $363,720 with an expected 14.1% rate of return (MIRR). The current property value appreciation is estimated to be $183,900. Fortunately California allows a property tax exclusion for solar energy.

  This custom solar panel installation included a new clay tile roof.  The large roof at over 10,000 square feet has 4,000 sq. ft. of suitable south facing roof area. The new panel array used 800 sq. ft. of this area. The new roof was first sheeted with ¾” plywood. All the wiring required for the panels were installed under the plywood, including the junction boxes that were hidden under hinged panels for easy access. The new plywood was covered with Weather Master modified SBS reinforced 60 mil underlayment. The roof under the panel array was then covered with a 50 year asphalt shingle roof. The solar panels were then mounted using SunPowers flush Smart Mount system. The finished solar panel array was framed with a clay tile roof adhered to the roof with PolySet a 2 part polyurethane foam that will add insulation to the roof,  allow  the roof to be walked on without tile breakage, and eliminate the need for nails or screws. This clean installation will extend the life of the roof and the solar panels.

 This system has outperformed  its expected output every month by 12%. The expected kWh output of all solar systems installed is determined by the California Solar Incentive.
